COURSE CURRICULUM

The Clinical Psychology modules provide students with a strong combination of clinical knowledge, practical skills, therapeutic approaches, research competence, and supervised professional experience. Clinical Interviewing and Assessment develops skills in semi-structured and standardized interviews, mental status examinations, diagnostic assessment, case formulation, communication, reporting, and reflective practice. Core Skills in Clinical Practice focuses on the essential abilities required by clinical psychologists, including effective communication, reflective skills, subject knowledge, professional development, continuous learning, and a prejudice-free approach to working with diverse service users. Current Paradigms in Counselling and Psychotherapy introduces major therapeutic perspectives such as psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centred, Gestalt, reality, cognitive-behavioural, and postmodern approaches, emphasizing their practical application, ethical considerations, and supporting evidence. Fundamentals in Neuropsychology explores brain structure and function, mental processes, recovery following traumatic brain injury and stroke, neuroimaging techniques such as EEG and fMRI, and clinical methods including neurofeedback, TMS, and tDCS. Interventions for Anxiety and Depression focuses on evidence-based treatments for two common psychological difficulties, with particular attention to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), therapeutic techniques, case studies, reflective practice, and role-playing. Introduction to Research develops quantitative and qualitative research skills, covering research design, questionnaires, hypothesis development, participant selection, interviews, focus groups, data collection and analysis, ethics, reliability, and validity. The Practical Internship provides supervised experience in clinical settings, allowing students to develop their understanding of client interviewing, assessment, personal development, therapeutic approaches, and group dynamics through practical work and supervision. Psychopathology provides an updated understanding of DSM-5, ICD-11, and the Power Threat Meaning Framework, while developing skills in identifying symptoms, differential diagnosis, comorbidity, psychological formulation, evidence-based assessment, treatment planning, and critical evaluation of diagnostic systems. The Dissertation enables students to independently conduct a research project, from developing a research question and reviewing literature to collecting and analysing data and producing an APA-style research paper. Overall, the modules integrate psychological theory, clinical assessment, therapeutic intervention, research, practical training, ethical awareness, and reflective practice, preparing students for further professional development and clinical psychology-related roles.
