COURSE CURRICULUM
The BA (Hons) in Psychology is a four-year programme that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour, psychological processes, research methods, and the practical application of psychology. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through Introduction to Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Philosophy of Science and Ethics, Discovering Science, Artificial Intelligence Literacy, Digital IT Applications, and academic and transferable skills. Year 2 expands students’ understanding through Topics in Psychology, Reasoning and Critical Thinking, Evolutionary Psychology, Applied Psychology, Interdisciplinary Psychology, and Communication and Interpersonal Relationships. These modules strengthen analytical thinking and introduce students to different psychological perspectives and their practical applications. Year 3 focuses on specialist areas including Child Development, Neuroscience, Psychological Research Methods, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Psychology of Employment and Employability, Social Psychology, Individual Differences, Psychological Disorders, Memory and Language, Statistics, and Contemporary Issues in Educational Psychology. Students therefore gain knowledge of psychological development, brain and behaviour, mental health, social interaction, workplace psychology, and research and statistical methods. In Year 4, students complete a Research Project in Psychology and select specialist modules from areas including Clinical Psychology, Social Cognition and Behaviour, Counseling Psychology, Diversity and Inclusion, Cognitive Neuropsychology, Emotion, Addiction, Adult Development and Aging, Intimate Interpersonal Relationships, and Cognition and Emotion. The programme combines theoretical learning with research, analytical, communication, statistical, and practical skills, enabling students to understand psychological processes from cognitive, biological, developmental, social, clinical, and applied perspectives. It also emphasizes ethical awareness, critical thinking, research competence, and the ability to evaluate psychological evidence. Through its broad range of optional subjects, students can explore areas aligned with their interests and career goals. Overall, the programme provides a strong academic foundation for careers and further study in psychology, education, research, health and wellbeing, counselling-related fields, human resources, social services, forensic settings, and other people-focused professional environments, while preparing students for postgraduate study where professional practice requires additional qualifications.
