COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in English Language, Linguistics and Literature is a four-year interdisciplinary programme combining language, linguistics, literature, translation, English language teaching, media, and film studies. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through Introduction to Literature, Linguistics, Poetry, Drama, Translation, Artificial Intelligence Literacy, Digital IT Applications, and academic and professional communication skills. Year 2 develops specialist knowledge through Language Teaching Methodology, Film Studies, American Poetry, History of the English Language, Translation Methodology, Morphology, Media Studies, Contemporary Anglophone Theatre, and Fiction. In Year 3, students progress to advanced linguistic and literary subjects including Semantics, Syntax, English Phonetics and Phonology, Sociolinguistics, Pragmatics, Second Language Acquisition, Literary Translation, American and British Literature and Culture, Language Testing and Assessment, ELT Classroom Principles and Practices, and Understanding Film. Year 4 focuses on professional, research, and advanced academic development through Teaching Materials Design and Evaluation, Research Practice, Literary Theory, Adaptation across Media, Language, Gender and Identity, The Victorian Novel, School Psychology, Practice in English Language Teaching, and Contemporary Topics in English Studies. Students also complete a Dissertation, providing an opportunity to conduct independent research on a relevant topic. Overall, the programme develops a broad understanding of how English language, literature, and communication operate across educational, cultural, social, and professional contexts. Students gain analytical, critical-thinking, research, communication, teaching, translation, and digital skills while exploring both traditional and contemporary approaches to English studies.
