ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The University of York Europe Campus, CITY U.L.E., is a non-state, not-for-profit university and the officially licensed European branch campus of the University of York, UK. Legally established in Greece under Law 5094/2024, it delivers University of York programmes across the region and is headquartered in Thessaloniki, with a second campus in Athens. The institution also provides academic programmes in other countries throughout Southeast and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, creating a broad regional presence and opportunities for students from different backgrounds. The Campus offers a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate programmes and, from 2026, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, alongside interdisciplinary research initiatives designed to support its strategic objectives, academic development, and commitment to excellence. Although the University of York Europe Campus, CITY U.L.E. was officially established in 2025 following licensing by the Greek Ministry of Education, its academic history extends much further back. Its roots can be traced to 1989, when CITY College was founded in Thessaloniki and developed a strong reputation for academic excellence in the region. In 1992, CITY College established a close partnership with the University of Sheffield, which later resulted in CITY College becoming the university’s International Faculty in 2009. In 2020, CITY was granted International Campus status by the University of York, representing an important stage in its institutional development and strengthening its connection with the University of York. This long-standing academic evolution ultimately contributed to the establishment of the University of York Europe Campus in Greece. Today, CITY U.L.E. combines its established regional academic heritage with the University of York’s international reputation, offering students access to internationally connected education, diverse academic programmes, and research opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on academic quality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and regional engagement.
