COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science modules provide students with a comprehensive foundation in computer science, combining programming, mathematics, computer systems, networking, web development, software engineering, databases, algorithms, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and advanced computing concepts. Problem Solving & Programming develops logical thinking and programming skills, helping students analyse problems and create effective computational solutions. Mathematics for Computer Science provides the mathematical principles needed to understand and support areas such as algorithms, computing theory, data processing, and technical problem-solving. Computer Systems introduces the fundamental components and operation of modern computing systems, while Computer Communications examines how computers and digital devices communicate and exchange information across networks. Web Development and Web Programming develop practical skills for creating websites and web-based applications. Software Engineering Fundamentals introduces structured approaches to software development, including planning, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Relational Databases focuses on the design and management of structured databases, while Modern Databases expands students’ understanding of contemporary database technologies and approaches. Data Structures and Algorithms develops the ability to organize data efficiently and design effective computational procedures for solving complex problems. The Group Project provides practical experience of collaborative software or computing development while strengthening teamwork, communication, and project management skills. Operating Systems explores the software that manages computer hardware and system resources, while Systems Design & Development focuses on analysing requirements and developing effective computing solutions. Media Technology introduces students to the use of computing within digital media and related technologies. Advanced AI and Applications explores artificial intelligence concepts and their practical applications, helping students understand how intelligent technologies can address real-world problems. Cyber Security and Applied Cryptography develops knowledge of protecting digital systems, networks, applications, and information from cyber threats while introducing cryptographic techniques for securing data and communication. Finally, the Computing Dissertation allows students to independently research a computing-related topic and apply their technical, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to a substantial project. Overall, these modules provide a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical development, advanced technologies, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in software development, systems analysis, web development, databases, networking, AI, cybersecurity, and other computing-related fields.
