COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Photography is a comprehensive four-semester program totaling 120 ECTS, delivered in English, designed to deepen students' creative, conceptual, and professional photographic practices. In the first semester, students focus on foundational skills such as Professional Photography Practice (10 ECTS, 6 HWS), Identity & Culture (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), History & Theory of Photography (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), and Innovation (3 ECTS), alongside modules like Concept & Context, Contemporary Leadership Culture, and Advanced Research Methodologies, which foster critical thinking and strategic thinking in practice. The second semester continues the development of advanced theoretical and methodological skills through Cultural Studies, Visual Narratology, Performativity, Interdisciplinary Electives, and The Business of Photography (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), preparing students for professional engagement in the photographic industry. The third semester includes the Capstone Project, a 15 ECTS practical consulting module that encourages collaboration across programs, along with Thesis Development (5 ECTS, 3 HWS) to support conceptual and research preparation. Weekly workloads remain around 18 hours throughout the first three semesters. The final semester is dedicated to the Master’s Thesis & Colloquium, worth 30 ECTS, where students undertake substantial research and presentation of their photographic projects. The program integrates faculty-wide and university-wide interdisciplinary modules, allowing students to draw on broader perspectives. By combining historical context, critical theory, technical mastery, business insight, and research skills, graduates emerge with a strong artistic voice, practical competence, and the confidence to succeed in diverse professional roles such as fine art, editorial, commercial, documentary photography, or education.
