COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Communication Design at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences is structured to provide a comprehensive and critical understanding of visual communication, design theory, and global cultural contexts. In the first two semesters, the core focus is on examining the historical developments of art and design up to the present. Students engage with the evolution of visual communication through philosophical, social, and economic lenses while also analysing how digital economies are reshaping creative work. Practical assignments are integrated into these modules to link theoretical learning with hands-on design practice.As students move into the third semester, the curriculum shifts toward current discourses in art and design. This includes a deeper exploration of design theory, particularly its autonomy as a form of cultural knowledge. Topics such as ethics, cultural studies, and transcultural perspectives are introduced to expand students’ ability to think critically about the societal role of design. These modules encourage students to interrogate global and local dynamics, understand cultural diversity, and consider the responsibilities of design in an interconnected world.Interdisciplinary thinking is a consistent thread throughout the program. Students are encouraged to explore new methods—from speculative design and storytelling to advanced technologies like drone displays. The aim is to develop innovative communication strategies and apply them effectively in political, institutional, and commercial environments.The program culminates in a Capstone Project and final thesis, allowing students to synthesise their academic and practical learning. These final components showcase students’ ability to apply critical theory, cultural awareness, and design innovation to real-world issues. By the end of the program, graduates are well-equipped to influence communication processes and design practices across diverse professional fields, contributing meaningfully to the cultural, economic, and technological transformations of the digital age.
