COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Photography program at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences is a two-semester, 60 ECTS course designed to develop both creative and professional photographic skills. Delivered in English, the program provides an interdisciplinary approach combining theory, practice, and leadership training. In the first semester (30 ECTS), students explore foundational concepts in photography through modules such as Concept and Context (10 ECTS, 6 HWS), Identity and Culture (10 ECTS, 6 HWS), and Professional Photography Practice (5 ECTS, 3 HWS). These are supported by faculty-wide and university-wide electives that enhance interdisciplinary learning. The second semester (also 30 ECTS) continues with modules like History and Theory of Photography, Performativity (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), Advanced Research Methodologies (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), and a university-wide module on Contemporary Leadership. The program concludes with a Thesis and Colloquium (15 ECTS), which allows students to showcase their academic and practical development through a self-directed research project. The overall structure emphasizes the integration of photographic theory and practice within broader cultural, social, and professional frameworks. Students are encouraged to critically reflect on their work, engage with current trends, and consider photography’s role in shaping visual culture.
