COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Communication Design is a comprehensive 60 ECTS course taught in English, structured over multiple semesters to develop advanced skills in design theory and practice. In the first semester, students engage with Advanced Design Practices (5 ECTS, 3 HWS), focusing on practical and conceptual design skills. The second semester emphasizes cultural and theoretical aspects with modules such as Design as a Culture Knowledge (10 ECTS, 6 HWS) and Design & Aesthetic Discourses (10 ECTS, 6 HWS). Additionally, students study Culture & Environmental Studies, divided into two parts across semesters with 10 and 5 ECTS credits respectively, each offering a deep dive into cultural contexts and environmental considerations in design. To support research capabilities, Design Research Methodologies (5 ECTS, 3 HWS) is included, equipping students with essential methods for academic and applied research. The program culminates in a Master Thesis and Colloquium, allowing students to synthesize their learning and demonstrate mastery in communication design. The course also offers specialization modules from the student’s study program and interdisciplinary faculty-wide modules, fostering a broad and integrative learning experience. Overall, the curriculum balances practical design expertise with critical cultural and research insights, preparing graduates for diverse roles in the evolving field of communication design.
