COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Photography program at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences is a 90 ECTS, three-semester course taught in English. It is structured to equip students with critical, conceptual, and practical expertise in contemporary photography. In the first semester (30 ECTS, 18 HWS), students engage in core modules such as Concept & Context (10 ECTS), Identity & Culture (10 ECTS), and Professional Photography Practice (5 ECTS), which provide a strong foundation in photographic theory and visual communication. The second semester (30 ECTS, 18 HWS) deepens this knowledge through modules like Innovation (5 ECTS), The Business of Photography (5 ECTS), Visual Narratology (5 ECTS), and Cultural Studies (5 ECTS), along with Advanced Research Methodologies (5 ECTS) and an Interdisciplinary Elective (5 ECTS). These courses support both academic and industry-related growth. The third semester (30 ECTS, 7 HWS) focuses on finalizing the academic journey with the Thesis & Colloquium (20 ECTS), supported by Contemporary Leadership (5 ECTS) and Performativity (5 ECTS), bridging artistic vision with leadership and performance. Students also benefit from university-wide and faculty-wide interdisciplinary modules, enhancing their adaptability and perspective across creative disciplines. The program blends photographic practice with critical thinking, cultural theory, and professional development, preparing graduates for diverse careers in photography, media, education, or the arts.
