COURSE CURRICULUM

The Illustration curriculum at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and practice-oriented foundation in the field of illustration over six semesters, amounting to 180 ECTS. In the first and second semesters, students explore core subjects such as Illustration Basics, Experimental Illustration, and General Design Foundations, while also building skills in digital and analogue techniques, technological design methodologies, and figure drawing. As they progress into the third and fourth semesters, students delve deeper into applied illustration through advanced projects such as Artistic Visualization and Drawn Animation, as well as theoretical modules in aesthetics, ethics, and cultural studies. Tools and Technologies modules run throughout, supporting technical proficiency alongside conceptual development. Students also engage in Foundation Projects that foster creative experimentation and critical reflection. The fifth semester offers the flexibility to undertake a semester abroad or complete a professional internship, broadening their practical experience and international perspective. In the final semester, students focus on their Bachelor’s thesis, comprising the BA Project, BA Visualization, and BA Documentation/Presentation, culminating in a professional portfolio and final exhibition. Additional modules such as Existenzgründung (Start-up) and Professional Practice Essentials prepare students for entrepreneurial and freelance opportunities. Through an interdisciplinary and modular approach, students gain the artistic, technical, and strategic skills required to pursue diverse careers in publishing, animation, advertising, and interactive media, positioning them as innovative visual storytellers in the ever-evolving creative industries.
