COURSE CURRICULUM

The Game Design curriculum at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) spans six semesters and offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that blends theory, artistic practice, and technological skills. The program begins with foundational modules such as General Design Foundations, Art for Games, and Technological Design Methodologies, giving students a solid base in design thinking and creative processes. In subsequent semesters, students delve deeper into the world of games through modules like Game & Play, Game Development, Games as Narrative, and Games as Expression. These courses explore the interactive, aesthetic, and cultural aspects of game design, allowing students to critically assess the role of games in society while also learning how to craft immersive digital experiences. The curriculum also includes complementary subjects such as Theories and Discourses in Media and Cultural Theory, Code & Algorithm, and Digital and Analogue Techniques, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of the field. Students can personalise their academic journey through elective projects and gain international experience with a semester abroad or an internship in the fifth semester. The final semester culminates in a Bachelor’s project and thesis, supported by modules in Professional Practice and Start-up, which prepare students to launch their careers or entrepreneurial ventures. With 180 ECTS credits, this degree equips graduates with the creative and professional skills needed to enter the diverse and growing global games industry as designers, developers, artists, or creative technologists.
