COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Therapy Master’s program curriculum is structured over four semesters with a total of 120 ECTS credits, offering a balanced combination of scientific theory, therapeutic practice, and clinical application. In the first semester, students complete 30 ECTS that establish essential foundations for advanced study in music therapy. The Scientific Foundations module introduces research-based thinking and methodological principles that support evidence-informed therapeutic practice. Basics of Music Therapy provides an overview of core concepts, methods, and intervention approaches used in diverse therapeutic settings. Psychological Basics equips students with fundamental knowledge of human behaviour, mental processes, and emotional development relevant to therapeutic work. In Basic Instrumental Techniques, students develop practical musical skills needed for therapeutic interaction, improvisation, and client-centred music-making. Clinical Psychology I, with a focus on psychotherapy approaches, introduces major therapeutic models and clinical frameworks that inform music therapy practice. Across the remaining semesters, students continue to build on these foundations through advanced theoretical modules, supervised clinical practice, internships, and research-oriented coursework, gradually increasing their professional and clinical competencies. The curriculum is designed to integrate academic learning with hands-on experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real therapeutic contexts. By the end of the four semesters, students are well prepared for professional practice in music therapy, interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare and social settings, and the completion of a master’s thesis that reflects both practical insight and academic rigour.
