COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in World Music with a focus on trans-traditional creative musicking at SRH University Berlin is a full-time, six-semester program worth 180 ECTS that combines artistic practice, research, teaching, and self-management. The curriculum emphasizes students’ own creative work in cross-traditional, cross-genre, and cross-disciplinary contexts, encouraging exploration of sound as an artistic, aesthetic, and performative practice. Students work with a wide range of approaches, including analogue and digital sound, intermodal concepts, and installative practices, allowing them to develop a unique artistic identity. Alongside intensive practical work, the program includes complementary subjects such as music history, music theory, aesthetics, aural training, and instrumental or vocal studies. These subjects are taught from a culturally differentiated and historically critical global perspective, treating diverse musical traditions and sound cultures as equally relevant. The curriculum also integrates artistic and academic research methods, music pedagogy, and self-management skills to prepare students for professional careers in music and related fields. Learning takes place through lectures, seminars, workshops, individual and group lessons, rehearsals, project work, and independent study, with strong emphasis on peer learning and real-world artistic practice.
