COURSE CURRICULUM

The B.A. Illustration program offers a comprehensive curriculum that blends fundamental design education with creative exploration and practical experience. In the early semesters, students build a strong foundation in essential design and illustration skills through modules such as design basics, illustration basics, character design, and animation. These core areas help develop technical proficiency and artistic confidence across traditional and digital media. As students progress, they engage in more specialised modules like Concept Art, Narrative Illustration, and Editorial Design, where they apply storytelling principles to various formats including comics, children's books, and editorial work. Practical experience plays a vital role in the program: students participate in a media lab, complete an internship in Germany or abroad, and take on a freelance illustration project, preparing them for real-world creative industry demands. In addition, the program emphasises research and reflection with modules in artistic research and participation in an academic colloquium. The curriculum is designed to be flexible and responsive to individual interests, with a variety of compulsory elective modules and the opportunity to collaborate with industry partners on live projects. This structure ensures that graduates not only master the craft of illustration but also develop a unique visual voice and a strong professional portfolio tailored to their career goals.
