COURSE CURRICULUM
The cyber security program encompasses a comprehensive set of modules designed to equip students with a deep understanding of the legal, technical, sociological, and managerial aspects of cyber threats and defences. The Cybercrime module introduces students to the sociological and criminological dimensions of online deviance, exploring areas such as cyberstalking, child exploitation, and cyberterrorism through case studies and theoretical analysis. Digital Forensics trains students in the technical skills required to investigate compromised systems and extract relevant data to reconstruct cyberattacks. Complementing this is Information System Risk Management, which builds awareness of industry-standard frameworks and practices for identifying, assessing, and mitigating business threats in information systems. Information System Security Management focuses on applying security protocols in real-world corporate environments, with attention to disaster recovery, legal constraints, and ethical standards. A grounding in legal theory is provided through the Introduction to Law module, which covers legal systems, European and international law, human rights, and the foundations of cyber law. Network and Systems Security addresses the threats facing interconnected digital systems and teaches students how to deploy secure networked environments. Penetration Testing gives practical experience in ethically hacking systems to identify vulnerabilities and strengthen IT infrastructure. The program culminates in an MSc Dissertation, a substantial individual research project requiring up to 600 hours of work and resulting in a 20,000–30,000-word thesis. This dissertation enables students to apply their technical, analytical, and research skills to real-world problems and develop a specialist understanding of a specific topic in cyber security. Throughout the program, students gain practical, hands-on experience while also developing the critical thinking and interdisciplinary insight necessary to navigate the complexities of modern cyber security landscapes. The combination of technical training and contextual knowledge ensures graduates are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to industry, research, and policy sectors.
