EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (EBS University of Business and Law) is a state-recognized private research university in Wiesbaden and Oestrich-Winkel, Germany, specializing in business and law. Founded in 1971 as the European Business School, it is the oldest private business school in Germany and gained full university status in 2011 after establishing its law faculty in 2010. Known for its strong ties to the finance and consulting sectors, EBS is one of the most prestigious institutions for business and law in the German-speaking world and is recognized for fostering entrepreneurship, with alumni founding companies like Vapiano, Lieferando, and Foodspring. Notable graduates include senior executives from Goldman Sachs, Google, Puma, and Deutsche Telekom. The university partners with leading global firms such as McKinsey and Mercedes-Benz and maintains academic ties with institutions like UC Berkeley and Sciences Po. Initially located in Offenbach, the school moved to Oestrich-Winkel in 1980. Despite a scandal in 2010 over misused public funding intended for its law school, which led to legal investigations later dropped, the university continued to expand, founding its Executive School in 2018. Its current president is Günther Oettinger, former EU Commissioner and Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg.
