COURSE CURRICULUM

Earth Sciences and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources (ESSMER) BSc program at Constructor University is designed to equip students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation across Earth sciences, economics, and sustainability. In the first year, students complete mandatory CHOICE modules totaling 30 credit points in Fundamentals of Earth Sciences, Environmental Systems and Global Change, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics, providing them with essential knowledge of Earth's systems and economic principles. These modules explore geological structures, climate processes, and human impacts on the environment, while also introducing students to the basics of economic thinking. Students have the flexibility to select an additional 15 credit points from other CHOICE modules, supporting exploration of related fields or a potential change of major. In the second year, students undertake 45 credit points of CORE modules, deepening their understanding in specialized areas such as Geochemistry of Environmental Systems, Physics of Planet Earth, Natural Resources and Hazards, and Advanced Field Laboratories. They also take modules on Sustainability and Infrastructure Investments, Finance and Sustainable Management of Natural Risks, and Economics of Environmental Resources, ensuring a solid grounding in both environmental science and the economic frameworks essential for managing natural resources sustainably. These modules are structured in thematic pairs to encourage integrated learning across semesters. In the third year, students consolidate their expertise through specialization modules and apply their knowledge in a mandatory two-month internship, typically completed during the summer between the second and third years. This real-world experience enhances professional readiness and supports career exploration. The fifth semester includes opportunities for studying abroad, and the final semester focuses on independent research through the Bachelor's thesis. Throughout the program, students are also offered career workshops and advising to prepare for post-graduate employment or further study.
