ABOUT UNIVERSITY

BIMM is a private institution specialising in music, film, performing arts, and creative technology. Established in 2001 as the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, it has grown significantly, expanding into Ireland and Germany, and becoming BIMM University in 2022 following the awarding of full university status. It now consists of five academic schools: BIMM Music Institute, Performers College, MetFilm School, MetStudios, and BIMM University Berlin. Courses are offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across nine urban campuses located in the UK, Ireland, and Germany.With around 8,300 students, BIMM is the UK’s second-largest provider of creative industries higher education. The university has undergone several major developments, including the acquisition of Tech Music School (formerly Drumtech) in 2010, the integration of Brighton Film School in 2018, and the recent acquisition of MetFilm School in 2024. In 2019, BIMM was granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers in the UK, previously offering degrees validated by the University of Sussex. BIMM Dublin’s courses remain validated by Technological University Dublin.While continuing to grow, BIMM adapts to student demand, illustrated by the closure of its Hamburg campus in 2023 and the 2024 merger of ICTheatre with Performers College. Its evolution reflects a dynamic commitment to the creative arts.
