COURSE CURRICULUM

The User Experience (UX) Design MA is structured across three main terms, each focusing on key areas of study and development. In Term 1, the module Research and Professional Contexts 1 introduces students to the foundational theories and professional frameworks relevant to UX design. Within this term, the unit Defining Your Practice encourages students to explore creative practices deeply to help shape their project proposals. It provides a structured way to investigate various methods, ideas, and themes within their discipline, guiding them to better understand and locate their own creative approach.Term 2 continues with Research and Professional Contexts 2, which further builds on the cultural and intellectual context of visual communication through lectures and seminars. The Context and Method unit engages students in current debates and interdisciplinary issues, connecting theory with practical design-led work. During this term, the Project Development unit supports students in refining the focus and themes of their final project. They will evaluate and test their proposals through self-directed study, tutorials, group critiques, and presentations. This process fosters critical reflection and independent research, allowing students to develop their research questions and methods.In Term 3, the focus shifts to Major Project Realisation and Dissemination. Students apply all their accumulated knowledge and experience to produce a final MA project that demonstrates innovation, coherence, and professional-level quality. This body of work represents the culmination of their studies. Additionally, students prepare a critical paper reflecting on the project outcome, discussing its interpretation and success, and demonstrating their approach to creative practice through research. This comprehensive structure ensures students graduate with both strong practical skills and critical understanding in UX design.
