COURSE CURRICULUM

BA (Hons) Media and Communications is a dynamic program designed to develop students’ understanding of media industries, communication practices, and creative content production. The integrated foundation year builds essential academic and professional skills through modules in scholarship, creativity, cultural engagement, global skills, and independent research or project-based learning. In the first year, students are introduced to key areas of media and communications, including media theory, practical media tools, mobile communications, music marketing and promotion, journalism, and film studies, providing both creative and analytical foundations. During the second year, students expand their knowledge through more specialised subjects such as journalism and content creation, information and disinformation, digital photography or iconic screen characters, politics of celebrity, marketing and advertising, and documentary or global television. These modules encourage critical thinking and practical media production skills. In the final year, students refine their expertise by choosing advanced and specialist modules such as horror or representation on screen, advanced digital photography or campaign writing, and global cinema or a documentary project. The program culminates in a media and communications dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent research or creative work. Graduates leave with strong communication, analytical, and digital media skills, preparing them for careers in journalism, marketing, broadcasting, content creation, and the wider media industry.
