COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Foundation in Art, Design, and Media is a preparatory program aimed at equipping students with essential skills for success in undergraduate study. It focuses on developing academic English proficiency through the module English for Academic Purposes, Research and Study Skills, enabling students to engage confidently with their future coursework. Alongside this, Exploring Practices, Process, Materials and Techniques introduces students to foundational creative methods, encouraging experimentation and technical skill development. Investigating Specialist Practice allows students to explore areas of personal interest in greater depth, culminating in a Final Major Project that showcases their readiness for degree-level study. Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students progress into the three-year degree program, which builds on this strong base. In the first year, modules such as Methods and Processes and Typography and Principles of Visual Communication introduce essential design techniques and visual communication skills. Historical and Contextual Methods deepen students’ understanding of the cultural and historical influences on contemporary design practice. The second year expands students’ creative and critical abilities through Design Direction, which develops leadership and project management skills, and Contextual Research and Theory, which fosters a deeper engagement with design discourse. An optional Study Abroad Exchange offers an opportunity to gain international perspective and experience diverse design cultures. The final year focuses on advanced critical research and independent practice through Contextual Research and Critical Perspectives and the Final Major Project, where students develop a substantial body of creative work. Complementing this, Professional Practice prepares students for successful careers by focusing on practical skills such as portfolio development, client interaction, and industry awareness. This comprehensive pathway ensures students graduate with both strong creative capabilities and the professional readiness to thrive in the evolving fields of art, design, and media.
