COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured over three years, each designed to progressively develop students’ understanding and skills in visual communication and design. In the first year, students focus on building a solid foundation through modules such as Methods and Processes, which introduces essential techniques and approaches used in design practice. Typography and Principles of Visual Communication explores the fundamentals of visual language, enabling students to effectively convey messages through type and design elements. Historical and Contextual Methods provide critical insight into the evolution of design, encouraging students to appreciate the cultural and historical factors that influence contemporary practice. The second year expands on these foundations with more advanced study in Design Direction, where students begin to explore creative leadership and the management of visual projects. Contextual Research and Theory deepen students’ critical understanding of design within broader cultural and theoretical frameworks. Additionally, an optional Study Abroad Exchange offers the chance to gain international experience, broadening cultural awareness and exposing students to diverse design methodologies. In the final year, students engage with Contextual Research and Critical Perspectives, further honing their ability to critically analyze and contextualize their work within the field. The Final Major Project provides an opportunity for independent creative practice, allowing students to develop and realize a substantial design project that showcases their individual style and skills. Complementing this is the Professional Practice module, which prepares students for the transition into the design industry by focusing on real-world skills such as client communication, portfolio development, and career planning. Overall, this carefully designed progression ensures that students graduate with a comprehensive skill set, critical awareness, and professional readiness to thrive in the evolving field of visual communication and design.
