COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animation program is designed to guide students through a comprehensive journey of creative and technical development over three years. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by exploring key concepts and essential skills. Modules such as Animation: Contexts and Concepts introduce the history, theory, and cultural significance of animation, while Digital Skills focus on mastering the software and technical tools necessary for production. Drawing for Animation sharpens observational and illustrative skills, providing the visual language essential for effective animation. Animation Principles introduces the fundamental techniques that underpin animated movement and storytelling. In the second year, students deepen their understanding with more advanced and specialised topics. Animated Cultures broadens perspectives by examining contemporary animation practices across the globe, and students have the option to study abroad to experience different cultural approaches firsthand. Advanced Digital Techniques develop higher-level technical abilities, equipping students to create more complex and polished work. The Short Film and Research and Concept modules encourage students to apply their skills in creative projects, from initial ideas through to production planning. The opportunity for a Study Abroad Exchange further enriches the learning experience by exposing students to international industry standards and practices. The final year focuses on professional preparation and independent work. Destinations encourages exploration of career pathways and industry engagement, while Proposal and Pitch prepares students to present their ideas effectively to potential collaborators or commissioners. The Final Film represents the culmination of their learning, allowing students to create a significant body of work that showcases their skills and creative vision. The Dissertation provides an opportunity for critical research, supporting academic rigour and contextual understanding.
