COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Cybersecurity (MACS) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai is a 72-credit point postgraduate program designed to equip both technical and non-technical learners with the skills and knowledge required to tackle complex cybersecurity challenges. The program is structured to provide a progressive, skill-based learning pathway that integrates foundational knowledge, advanced cybersecurity practice, and applied research or industry-based projects. Students begin with the Foundation Component, comprising four subjects (24 credit points), which introduces essential IT concepts, networking, programming, and digital forensics. These subjects provide the necessary background for students to confidently engage with more advanced cybersecurity topics. Students gain foundational knowledge in computing systems, operating systems, networking principles, and basic cybersecurity practices through hands-on labs and exercises. They also learn programming and scripting for cybersecurity, using languages such as Python and shell scripting to automate tasks like log analysis, vulnerability scanning, and data manipulation. Additionally, the foundation stage introduces research methods and design thinking principles to prepare students for problem-solving and innovation in digital security contexts.The Core Component consists of six subjects (36 credit points) that focus on advanced domains including cryptography, network security, cloud and IoT security, secure software development, and cybersecurity strategy and governance. These subjects develop technical expertise, strategic leadership, and real-world problem-solving skills. The program culminates in a Capstone Project (12 credit points), which spans two trimesters and allows students to apply their technical and managerial competencies to solve practical cybersecurity challenges. Overall, the MACS program comprises 12 subjects totaling 72 credit points, though students with relevant academic or professional experience may complete it in 48 credit points. Through this carefully designed structure, graduates gain the expertise, applied skills, and industry readiness to become leaders in the growing cybersecurity sector, capable of protecting critical digital infrastructure and managing cyber risks effectively.
