COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies requires students to successfully complete eight core subjects, providing a strong foundation for a professional career in education. The program equips students with essential knowledge and practical skills across curriculum design, assessment, instructional strategies, and inclusive education. Students begin by exploring the principles of learning sciences and curriculum design, applying these concepts to create effective learning units and develop assessment strategies for different school stages. Technology-enhanced learning is emphasized, with students gaining the theoretical and practical skills to design, develop, and evaluate teaching using a variety of instructional approaches and digital tools. This includes designing digital learning environments, experimenting with digital learning objects, and implementing evidence-informed pedagogical practices. The program also addresses inclusive education by examining the learning and teaching of students with developmental disabilities and neurodivergent conditions, focusing on educational policies, evidence-based practices, and human rights models. Students learn to identify barriers to inclusion, such as stigma, and explore strategies to support students across the lifespan. Literacy development for second language learners is also covered, allowing students to apply theoretical understandings to real learning programs, bridging theory and practice. The program introduces a range of classical and contemporary learning theories, including behaviorism, Piagetian perspectives, Vygotsky’s sociocultural approaches, information processing models, and concepts of creativity and emotional intelligence. Student assessment is a core focus, with training in designing effective assessment programs, analyzing data, providing feedback, and ensuring consistency of judgment. The capstone of the program is a school-based practicum, where students undertake a minimum five-week placement, designing and delivering lessons, assessing learning outcomes, managing classrooms, and engaging in extra-curricular activities. Throughout the practicum, students maintain a portfolio documenting reflections, lesson plans, assessments, and classroom management strategies, ensuring practical application of theoretical knowledge and readiness for professional roles in education.
