COURSE CURRICULUM
The psychology curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in scientific, theoretical, and applied aspects of human behaviour across diverse contexts. Students begin by exploring core concepts in psychology, gaining an understanding of how psychological research informs evidence-based clinical and professional practice. Early subjects introduce the biological and psychological systems that shape human behaviour, covering key areas such as perception, development, motivation, emotion, personality, stress, health, and cultural and Indigenous perspectives. As students progress, they examine how individuals perceive and interpret the world, how learning occurs, how intelligence and memory function, and how social influences shape thoughts, behaviour, and relationships. A strong emphasis is placed on research methods and statistics, including experimental design, hypothesis testing, reliability, validity, and the use of statistical tools such as z-tests, t-tests, correlation, chi-square, ANOVA, regression, and multivariate analysis. Students gain practical experience through laboratory work, data analysis using SPSS, and hands-on training in psychophysiological techniques such as ECG, EEG, and skin-conductance recording. The curriculum also covers theories of personality, biological psychology, cognition, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, and assessment methods used in both clinical and non-clinical settings. Advanced subjects delve into cognitive processes such as memory, language, reading, and reasoning, while specialised units focus on social behaviour, individual differences, and the formulation of research proposals. Applied psychology subjects demonstrate how psychological principles are used in real-world settings, including sport, health, well-being, and organisational environments. Students also explore counselling micro-skills, ethical and legislative issues, and the development and evaluation of intervention programs. In the later stages, the curriculum addresses contemporary issues such as the importance of early childhood development, environmental influences on growth, and how children construct their understanding of the world. Overall, the program equips students with scientific knowledge, research competence, analytical skills, and applied psychological insights essential for further study and professional practice.
