COURSE CURRICULUM

The common engineering subjects in the Civil Engineering program provide students with a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of engineering. Students begin by learning algorithm design and computer programming using MATLAB, focusing on problem-solving techniques, data types, control flow, and computational tools for solving engineering challenges. Mechanics is explored through the study of motion and forces, enabling students to analyze and design simple structures while understanding the professional responsibilities of engineers. Materials science is covered to help students understand the relationships between material properties, structure, processing, and sustainability considerations, ensuring that economic and environmental factors are incorporated into engineering solutions. Electrical engineering fundamentals are introduced, covering current, voltage, resistance, AC and DC circuits, motors, and generators, along with practical laboratory work to reinforce theoretical knowledge. Engineering design principles are integrated through team-based projects that emphasize innovative solutions while considering technical, social, economic, and environmental aspects. Mathematics is extensively covered through calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and series, with applications drawn from various engineering disciplines. Physics and chemistry are included to provide a strong foundation in electricity, magnetism, waves, quantum concepts, chemical reactions, and the properties of materials. Students also gain practical skills in surveying, geology, stress analysis, fluid mechanics, and statistical methods, which are critical for informed decision-making in engineering projects. Advanced topics in structural engineering, reinforced and prestressed concrete design, steel structures, soil mechanics, hydraulics, and geotechnical engineering are addressed to prepare students for complex construction challenges. Additionally, construction management, risk assessment, safety practices, project planning, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) are incorporated to provide students with the tools necessary to plan, manage, and execute engineering projects effectively, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.
