COURSE CURRICULUM
The core subjects in the Bachelor of Computer Science program in Game and Mobile Development provide students with a strong foundation in programming, software development, data management, networking, and web technologies. The program begins with fundamental programming concepts, emphasizing object-oriented approaches to problem analysis and solution design. Students develop skills in designing and implementing well-structured programs, applying structured and object-oriented programming techniques, and practicing good coding style. They also learn to analyse problems, explore formal and informal problem-solving strategies, and implement solutions using algorithm design and abstract data types.Students are introduced to systems analysis and design, learning to develop business, data, process, and object models to capture system specifications. The curriculum covers data management, including relational and non-relational databases, data processing, security, SQL, NoSQL databases, concurrency control, distributed systems, and ethical considerations in data handling. Networking fundamentals, including LANs, WANs, Internet architectures, protocols, signals, modulation, switching, and routing, are also taught, along with the OSI and TCP/IP models.Web technologies are integrated into the program, covering client-server systems, HTML, CSS, XML, web forms, client-side scripting, and dynamic content development. Students gain practical experience building websites and applications while understanding current and emerging web standards. Human-computer interaction principles, user-centred design, prototyping, usability testing, and accessibility are emphasised through hands-on projects.Advanced programming topics in C++ and Java include procedural, object-oriented, and generic programming, resource management, debugging, exception handling, and the use of modern libraries and tools. The program also covers modern software development methodologies, including software life cycles, process models, UML, agile principles, Scrum, extreme programming, test-driven development, and software architecture. These core subjects collectively equip students with the technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and practical skills required to develop enterprise-grade mobile applications, large-scale games, and interactive systems across various platforms. The Bachelor of Computer Science program provides a comprehensive foundation in computing, focusing on the development of both technical and analytical skills. The core subjects introduce students to the fundamental principles of programming, emphasizing object-oriented problem analysis and the design and implementation of well-structured programs across various domains. Students learn the essential techniques of systems analysis and design, including requirement gathering, business, data, and process modeling, and the use of Computer Aided Software Engineering tools. The curriculum also covers problem solving and strategy, teaching students to classify problems, apply formal and informal methods, and use appropriate representations to develop effective solutions. Further, the program consolidates knowledge in structured and object-oriented programming, enabling students to apply concepts such as encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, access control, overloading, and messaging to solve business problems. Data management and security are key components of the program, with training in SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, data processing, and security management, alongside an understanding of ethical considerations in data handling. Students also gain foundational knowledge of data communications and computer networks, covering network architectures, switching, routing, and internet protocols. Web technologies, including HTML, CSS, XML, client and server-side scripting, and dynamic website development, are also explored. Advanced programming courses in C++ and Java develop proficiency in procedural, object-oriented, and generic programming, memory management, and debugging techniques. The program also introduces software development methodologies, agile practices, software architecture, and project management strategies. In addition to core technical skills, students select one Emirati studies course, focusing on topics such as urban sociology, public health, international relations, environmental impact, or Islamic culture and history. This combination of technical expertise and contextual knowledge prepares graduates to address the challenges of modern computing, contribute to innovative software development, and engage meaningfully with the social and cultural context of the UAE and the broader global environment.
