COURSE CURRICULUM
The core subjects collectively provide a comprehensive foundation in media, communication, technology and professional practice, equipping students with the analytical, creative and ethical skills required in contemporary media industries. Students first explore how media and communication operate within a saturated, technology-driven world, examining the dynamic interactions between producers, consumers, and evolving media practices. This foundation expands into the study of globalisation and cross-cultural communication, highlighting how historical and contemporary media technologies shape cultural communities and influence transnational media flows. Alongside this, students gain a vital understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks that guide responsible communication, learning to navigate issues related to representation, imagery, privacy, and the social consequences of professional decision-making. Creative and practical development is emphasised through subjects that introduce idea mapping, rapid prototyping, and iterative design, enabling students to produce real-world digital artefacts that reflect innovation, entrepreneurship, and social utility. Students also engage deeply with experience-centred research methods, exploring lived experience through UX research, co-design, ethnography and narrative-based inquiry, while maintaining ethical integrity in all forms of knowledge production. The curriculum further examines the media’s role in constructing inequalities and driving social justice movements, encouraging students to analyse global issues—such as resource exploitation, migration, and celebrity activism—through diverse expressive media. To prepare students for specialised media careers, ethnographic and autoethnographic approaches help them understand audience behaviour and develop expertise within specific media niches, fostering innovation and commercial awareness. Finally, students explore the future of work, investigating how automation and shifting workplace boundaries affect career development, wellbeing, collaboration and professional identity. Through reflective and interview-based storytelling, students analyse their own values and aspirations, gaining insights into the evolving landscape of media professions and the skills needed to navigate it successfully.
