COURSE CURRICULUM
The core subjects in this program offer students a comprehensive foundation in media, communication and the evolving digital landscape by exploring how media practices, institutions and technologies shape our personal, professional and political lives. Students begin by examining the relationship between producers and consumers in a media-saturated world, gaining insight into how communication theories apply to modern technological environments. As globalisation increases cultural exchange, students study communication across cultures and the influence of transnational media industries on local and global communities. Understanding the legal and ethical dimensions of communication is another core component, with an emphasis on how language, representation and media choices can affect individuals and communities. Students also learn essential media-making techniques such as idea mapping, prototyping, testing and iterative design, applying these tools to develop real-world digital artefacts that reflect innovation and creativity. Research plays a key role as learners explore methods for understanding user experience, co-design, ethnography and storytelling, enabling them to investigate lived experience and design more meaningful products or communication strategies. The curriculum also examines the media’s role in shaping inequalities and inspiring social justice movements, encouraging students to analyse global issues and use expressive media forms to communicate their findings. Additionally, students explore media niches through ethnographic research to better understand content creation from an audience perspective while developing entrepreneurial and innovative thinking. Finally, the future of work is addressed through reflective narrative practices that help students navigate technological change, shifting work environments and their own professional development. This project-based subject includes an interview-driven exploration of career paths aligned with students’ aspirations. Altogether, these core subjects foster critical thinking, creativity, ethical awareness and practical skills essential for thriving in contemporary media and communication industries.
