COURSE CURRICULUM

The First Year Foundation Subjects equip students with essential business knowledge and analytical skills needed for success in a variety of organisational settings. Students begin by exploring the role of accounting information in decision-making, accountability, and corporate governance, gaining experience in evaluating financial and non-financial reports. They also learn the fundamentals of accounting systems, including double-entry recording, classification, and the preparation of financial statements. Ethical and responsible business practices are emphasized through subjects focused on global issues such as the environment, labour rights, anti-corruption, and human rights. Quantitative techniques form another key component, enabling students to analyse business data using computer-based software and models to support informed decision-making. Foundational economic concepts in both macroeconomics and microeconomics help students understand broader economic forces influencing business and society. Additional subjects introduce core principles of corporate and personal finance, highlighting cash flow analysis, time value of money, and ethical financial management. Students also examine essential management theories related to people, processes, and organisational culture, while marketing foundations help them understand market dynamics and competitive positioning. Beyond core subjects, students select five business subjects and three general electives from the approved list, allowing them to customize their academic pathway. A specialized subject on digitalization introduces emerging technologies, digital platforms, web technologies, computational thinking, and business analytics, offering hands-on experience with Web 3.0 tools. At advanced levels, students choose three 300-level business subjects and four additional electives, culminating in a capstone experience. The capstone adopts a Stanford-informed approach to innovation and entrepreneurship, covering design thinking, entrepreneurial development, and leadership for high-growth environments. Additional elective subjects explore themes such as urban sociology in the UAE, public health challenges in the GCC, UAE’s global diplomatic role, society–environment interactions, and the historical and cultural formation of Islamic societies, providing students with a broad and enriched understanding of societal systems.
