COURSE CURRICULUM

The First Year Foundation Subjects provide students with a comprehensive grounding in essential business disciplines, beginning with an introduction to the role of accounting information in organisational and societal contexts. Students learn to evaluate financial and non-financial reports and understand their implications for accountability, decision-making, and corporate governance. They also gain practical skills in basic accounting systems, including double-entry bookkeeping, classification, processing, and preparation of financial statements. Another key subject equips students with the conceptual tools necessary to engage in responsible and ethical commerce, examining issues related to the environment, globalization, technology, labour rights, and anti-corruption from theoretical and practical perspectives. Quantitative techniques are introduced to strengthen analytical and decision-making abilities, supported by training in computer-based models used in business analysis. Students also study fundamental macroeconomic and microeconomic concepts to better understand economic issues affecting business and society. In addition, foundational finance subjects help students grasp the time value of money, cash flow valuation, financial planning, and ethical considerations in financial management. Management subjects explore essential theories related to managing people, processes, and organisational culture, while marketing introduces the principles and frameworks needed to identify opportunities and position organizations competitively. Students then select five business subjects from the approved list, along with three general electives, allowing them to shape their academic pathway. A specialized subject on digitalization provides foundational understanding of emerging technologies, including digital platforms, web technologies, business analytics, and Web 3.0 tools. At the advanced level, students choose three 300-level business subjects and four additional electives to further deepen their knowledge. The capstone experience includes an innovation and entrepreneurship course inspired by Stanford’s approach, covering design thinking, entrepreneurship, growth, and leadership, blending lectures, discussions, and interactive activities to help students develop innovative business ideas suitable for high-growth environments in the UAE.
