COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business with a major in Accountancy offers students a comprehensive foundation in accounting, finance, economics, law, management, and business practices, preparing them for professional roles in a globalised business environment. In the first year, students are introduced to core foundation subjects that develop essential knowledge and skills. These include accounting principles, financial and non-financial reporting, double-entry systems, preparation of financial statements, quantitative techniques, and the application of computer-based models for decision-making. Foundational modules also cover macroeconomics and microeconomics, corporate and personal finance, legal concepts under the Australian legal system, marketing, management, professional communication, supply chain management, and sustainable and ethical business practices. Students gain critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while exploring contemporary issues such as globalization, human rights, technology, sustainability, and social responsibility. In the second year, subjects build on this foundation with advanced accounting and financial reporting, management accounting techniques, accounting information systems, and corporate finance, emphasizing both technical proficiency and contextual understanding of accounting practices. Major subjects further develop expertise in advanced financial accounting, management accounting theory, auditing, risk and assurance, and the ethical and legal environment of accounting. Capstone projects integrate knowledge from multiple subjects, allowing students to apply theoretical concepts to practical business scenarios. Additionally, students choose one Emirati Studies course, providing insights into local contexts such as urban sociology, public health, international relations and diplomacy, environmental management, or Islamic culture, enhancing their understanding of the UAE and global perspectives. Overall, the program combines technical accounting knowledge, analytical skills, ethical awareness, and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to pursue careers in auditing, financial analysis, management accounting, and other professional roles in domestic and international organisations.
