COURSE CURRICULUM

The first-year foundation subjects in this program provide students with a broad understanding of the social, organizational, and ethical contexts in which businesses and societies operate. Students begin by exploring responsible and ethical commerce, examining the impact of globalization, technology, environmental sustainability, labor, human rights, and anti-corruption practices, while applying these concepts to real-world commercial contexts. Marketing modules introduce the principles and frameworks necessary to identify market opportunities, address consumer needs, and position organizations competitively, forming a foundation for further business studies. Management courses focus on key theories and concepts for effectively leading people, processes, and organizational culture, emphasizing critical thinking and the implications of managerial decisions on both internal and external environments.Communication is central to professional effectiveness, and students develop competencies in culturally sensitive, ethical, and effective communication across multiple modes, including presentations, writing, non-verbal communication, active listening, and feedback. Urban sociology explores the complexity of modern cities, with a particular focus on the UAE and Dubai, covering urban growth, sustainable development, and the built environment. Public health introduces interdisciplinary approaches to physical, mental, and social well-being, highlighting intervention and management strategies at personal, social, and organizational levels.Students also examine the UAE’s evolving global role, workforce dynamics, and international relations, including transnational issues such as immigration, market fluctuations, and security concerns. Environmental studies explore society-environment interactions, covering historical revolutions, climate change, sustainability, Indigenous land management, and environmental governance in the Anthropocene context. Finally, Islamic culture studies provide a historical and sociological perspective on the emergence and development of Islam, its interactions with other monotheistic traditions, contributions to medieval science and knowledge, and contemporary debates surrounding identity, gender, pluralism, and secularism.Collectively, these foundation subjects equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills, and ethical awareness, preparing them to engage effectively with complex social, environmental, and organizational challenges in both regional and global contexts.
