COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Project Management curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and contemporary project environments, beginning with Managing Projects for Success, which introduces the project lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control techniques required to deliver successful outcomes. Through industry-standard tools and recognised professional frameworks, students learn how to evaluate project performance and apply decision-making strategies across different phases of delivery. The focus then shifts to Responsible Project Management, where students critically examine the ethical, sustainability and socio-political dimensions of modern project work, including how environmental pressures, globalisation, and social inequalities influence project decisions and outcomes. By exploring these tensions, learners develop an awareness of how responsible leadership must balance organisational objectives with societal benefit. Organisational Project Management builds on this understanding by examining the increasing projectification of organisations and the growing role of flexible and virtual teams, project management offices and governance structures. Students analyse how leadership dynamics evolve in temporary project settings and how managers navigate complex structures while maintaining alignment with strategic goals. Project Management Futures then encourages forward-thinking engagement with emergent trends such as hybrid work systems, technological disruption, shifting talent needs and evolving professional standards. During this stage, students reflect on their own competencies, career goals and personal development by building a SWOT analysis informed by professional bodies and industry expectations. The final dissertation stage allows students to synthesise their learning through an extended research inquiry or live project brief. Under supervision, they investigate a relevant project management issue, undertake ethical research design, analyse data and present findings that demonstrate applied knowledge and critical interpretation. Across all modules, the program prepares students to navigate change, lead diverse project environments and contribute responsibly to organisational success and societal impact.
