COURSE CURRICULUM

The Software Engineering program at DMU provides a comprehensive pathway for students to develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to excel in designing and implementing software across diverse platforms. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with modules such as Database Design and Implementation, Fundamental Concepts of Computer Science, Computer Programming, and Operating Systems and Networks. These modules introduce core principles of computing, software development, and system architecture, equipping students with essential programming and technical skills. The second year advances into specialised areas, including Object-Oriented Design and Development, Data Structures and Algorithms, Web Application Development, and the Software Engineering Team Project. These modules emphasise practical application, problem-solving, and collaboration, providing students with experience in developing real-world software solutions within a team environment. In the final year, students focus on advanced software development and have the flexibility to tailor their studies through optional modules. Core modules such as Software Development: Methods and Standards and Mobile App Development and Big Data deepen technical expertise, while optional modules—Functional Programming, Advanced Web Development, and Embedded Systems and IoT—allow students to specialise in areas aligned with career goals. This combination of compulsory and elective modules ensures a balance between theoretical knowledge, practical application, and professional readiness. The program also integrates considerations of computer ethics, law, and security throughout, preparing students to navigate industry challenges responsibly. Across all three years, the curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking, technical competence, and project management skills, enabling graduates to pursue careers in software development, banking and investment technology, healthcare and medical technology, game development, and other sectors reliant on advanced computing solutions.
