COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology program is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of human behaviour, combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. In the first year, students develop foundational competencies through modules such as Professional Skills for Psychologists, which builds essential abilities including communication, critical thinking, teamwork, project management, and ethical awareness. Core Areas and Research Methods 1 and 2 introduce key concepts in biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, alongside research methodology, observation, measurement, and data analysis. Applied Psychology allows students to contextualise theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering early practical experience. The emphasis in the first year is on establishing a solid understanding of psychological principles while developing analytical and research skills essential for progression in the field. In the second year, students expand their knowledge with more specialised modules. Mind, Brain and Behaviour explores the neurological and physiological underpinnings of human actions, while Psychology across the Lifespan examines developmental processes from childhood through adulthood. Psychology and Mental Health focuses on psychological disorders and interventions, and Psychology of Social Problems investigates societal issues and their impact on behaviour. Personality and Social Psychology explores individual differences, social influence, and interpersonal dynamics. This year integrates advanced theory with practical application, including research and data analysis, preparing students for complex psychological inquiry. In the final year, students consolidate learning and focus on professional and academic preparation. The Psychology Project allows independent research, applying analytical and methodological skills to a topic of choice. Conceptual and Historical Issues in Psychology deepens understanding of the evolution of psychological thought and theoretical frameworks, while Employability Skills and Psychology prepares students for careers or postgraduate study by enhancing professional, organisational, and practical competencies. Across all three years, the program equips graduates with strong analytical, research, and communication skills, along with specialised psychological knowledge, enabling them to pursue diverse careers in psychology, research, education, healthcare, social services, policy, and related fields.
