COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology and Education program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour, learning, and the societal factors that influence education, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills and professional development. In the first year, students build foundational competencies through modules such as Professional Skills for Psychologists, which develop critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and ethical awareness. Core Areas and Research Methods 1 and 2 introduce essential psychological concepts, research methods, and data analysis skills, while Psychological and Social Theories of Health and Illness explore how psychological principles interact with social contexts to influence health and educational outcomes. This combination of theory and practical application ensures students gain a strong base for future study. The second year advances into specialised areas of psychology and education. Mind, Brain and Behaviour examines neurological and physiological foundations of human action, while Psychology Across the Lifespan investigates development from childhood through adulthood. Application of Psychological and Social Theories of Health and Illness allows students to contextualise their learning in real-world scenarios, analysing how psychological and social factors impact behaviour, learning, and well-being. Students may also choose modules to tailor their studies to personal interests, enhancing expertise in specific areas. In the third year, students consolidate knowledge and prepare for professional or postgraduate pathways. Conceptual and Historical Issues in Psychology deepens understanding of theoretical frameworks and the evolution of psychological thought, while Employability Skills and Psychology equips students with professional competencies for diverse careers. Additional elective modules enable specialisation, and the Psychology Project provides an opportunity for independent research, applying analytical, methodological, and communication skills to a topic of choice. Across all three years, the program ensures graduates develop a thorough understanding of psychology, research expertise, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in education, healthcare, social work, research, human resources, and related fields where insight into human behaviour and societal factors is essential.
