COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and applied economic principles, progressively building students’ analytical, quantitative and policy evaluation skills across three years. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts through Applied Microeconomics and Applied Macroeconomics, developing an understanding of how individual and aggregate economic decisions are made and their implications. Maths and Statistics for Economics and Finance equips learners with essential quantitative techniques, while Data Management and Visualisation provides practical skills for organising, analysing and presenting economic information effectively. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced analysis and global perspectives. Microeconomics and Game Theory explore strategic decision-making and market behaviour, Econometrics and Data Analytics develop rigorous empirical skills for testing hypotheses and interpreting real-world data, and Global Financial Markets and Institutions provide insights into the functioning of banking, investment and regulatory systems. Contemporary Macroeconomics: Policy and Practice examines government interventions, fiscal and monetary policies, and their wider societal effects. The third year offers opportunities for specialisation and independent research. Students can select from modules such as Advanced Microeconomics or Advanced Macroeconomics to deepen theoretical understanding, Industrial Economics or Behavioural Economics and Finance to explore sectoral or psychological perspectives, and Digital Economics and Artificial Intelligence or Global Trade and Development Economics to engage with modern technological and international economic challenges. The program culminates in the Applied Economics Dissertation, where students synthesise knowledge, apply quantitative and qualitative analysis, and undertake original research on a topic of professional relevance. This structured approach ensures graduates develop critical thinking, empirical research skills, digital literacy, and the ability to evaluate complex economic problems, preparing them for careers in policy analysis, banking, consultancy, international development, financial services, and other roles requiring strong analytical and decision-making capabilities in a dynamic global economy.
