COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Design program is structured to progressively develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills, enabling them to conceive and deliver innovative, functional, and experiential interior spaces. In the first year, the focus is on foundational understanding, with modules such as Understanding Space and Exploring Space and Contrast introducing students to spatial perception, human interaction within environments, and the fundamentals of design thinking. Defining Space 1 and Defining Space 2 build on these concepts, encouraging learners to experiment with form, scale, proportion, and contrast to develop an initial design language and sense of spatial organisation. The second year shifts towards ideation, development, and professional practice. Ideation and Concept encourages students to generate creative solutions to complex briefs, while Design Development hones technical and conceptual skills in translating ideas into tangible proposals. Professional Communication and Context develops the ability to present and articulate design concepts effectively, considering both historical and contemporary influences, and Professional Design Practice prepares students for real-world application, emphasising client interaction, project management, and industry standards. In the final year, students undertake advanced study to refine expertise and personal design style. Advanced Research for Interior Design develops analytical and investigative skills, enabling students to explore emerging trends, cultural influences, and user-focused design strategies. Advanced Conceptualisation and Advanced Design Development and Communication challenge learners to produce sophisticated, innovative solutions that demonstrate mastery of design principles, technical proficiency, and creative expression. Advanced Professional Design Practice consolidates all learning outcomes, preparing students for professional practice through complex projects that mirror industry expectations and ethical considerations. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on sustainability, inclusivity, and experiential design, ensuring that graduates emerge as well-rounded, confident interior designers with a comprehensive portfolio. Equipped with strong technical skills, conceptual innovation, and professional acumen, they are prepared to pursue careers across residential, commercial, cultural, and experiential interior design sectors, contributing meaningfully to the evolving built environment.
