COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security at Curtin University offers a comprehensive program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to protect digital systems, networks, and data. Core programming and technical skills are developed through units such as Unix Systems Programming, Unix and C Programming, Programming Design and Implementation, and Data Structures and Algorithms, while computing and networking fundamentals are covered in Database Systems, Data Communications and Network Management, Operating Systems, and Cloud Computing. Cyber security-specific knowledge is gained through units including Penetration Testing and Defence, Cyber Security–Intrusion Detection System and Incident Handling, Cyber Security Concepts, Cyber Crime and Security Enhanced Programming, Fundamental Concepts of Data Security, and Fundamental Concepts of Cryptography, providing students with practical experience in safeguarding systems, detecting threats, and responding to security incidents. The program also emphasizes professional development and broader perspectives with units like Integrating Indigenous Science and STEM, Introduction to Software Engineering, Machine Learning, and Computing Topics. Students apply their learning to real-world problems through Capstone Computing Projects 1 and 2, ensuring hands-on experience in addressing complex cyber security challenges. Additionally, students can select three electives to tailor their studies according to personal interests or emerging industry demands.
