ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Ajman University, established on 17 June 1988, is recognized as the first private university in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the first university in the United Arab Emirates to accept expatriate students. Originally founded under the name “Ajman University College of Science and Technology,” it later became known as “Ajman University of Science and Technology” before adopting its current name, Ajman University, in 2018. Located in the Al Jurf area of Ajman near Khalifa Hospital, the university is a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of academic fields, including fully accredited programs in medicine and law. Its spacious 215,000 m² campus features extensive facilities such as sports fields, a gymnasium, swimming pool, health unit, bookstore, restaurants and mosques. Ajman University follows a traditional academic calendar consisting of fall and spring semesters, with an additional summer term beginning in June. The university has earned strong regional recognition, ranking among the top 30 universities in the Arab world and placing #17 in the QS Arab Region Rankings. It is also ranked #6 among universities in the UAE in the 2026 QS University Rankings. Ajman University is accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), the UAE government’s official higher education oversight body. A major institutional milestone occurred on 20 December 2023, when an Emiri decree issued by H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi converted the university from a for-profit institution into a non-profit one. The decree granted the university full legal personality, financial and administrative independence, and ownership under the Government of Ajman. It also outlined objectives focused on academic excellence, innovation, global educational access and economic development. The university’s notable alumni include chef and media personality Deema Hijjawi, journalist Fardad Farahzad, Sudanese scientist Mohamed Osman Baloola, influencer and UNICEF ambassador Maha Jaafar, and several recognized authors, poets and educators from across the region.
