COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sport and Exercise Sciences curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for developing advanced knowledge and practical skills in sport science, exercise rehabilitation, and injury management. The compulsory modules establish a strong academic foundation, beginning with Research Methods for Sport, Exercise, and Nutritional Sciences, which equips students with the skills to design, conduct, and critically evaluate scientific investigations. Advanced Skills for Sport and Exercise Practitioners focuses on developing professional competencies required to assess, monitor, and manage performance and rehabilitation in applied settings. The Research Project for Sport, Exercise, and Nutritional Scientists allows students to undertake an independent study, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application and demonstrating analytical and research expertise. Optional modules offer opportunities for specialisation and professional enhancement, including Management Strategies for Sport Injuries, which explores effective approaches to treatment and rehabilitation, and Prevention Strategies for Sports Injuries, emphasising proactive measures to reduce injury risk. Additionally, the Sports and Exercise for Special Population Groups – Exercise Referral module enables students to design and implement safe and effective exercise programs for populations with specific health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or mobility limitations. Overall, the curriculum combines scientific rigour, applied practice, and research-informed learning, preparing graduates for careers in sport science, rehabilitation, health promotion, and related fields, while equipping them to support diverse populations in maintaining health, performance, and well-being.
