COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science program is organised across four years, gradually building knowledge in physical education, sport science, and professional practice. In Year 1, students establish a foundation through modules such as Essentials of Physical Education, Practical Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity, Pedagogy and Sociology Issues in Physical Education, and The Basis of Human Movement. Optional modules including Academic Writing, English for Academic Purposes, and Introduction to Mathematics and Statistics help strengthen academic and analytical skills. Year 2 introduces core scientific aspects of sport through modules such as Introduction to Psychology in Sport and Exercise, Functional Anatomy, Introduction to Biomechanics in Sport, Planning and Instructing Exercise for Health and Fitness, and Principles of Physiology and Scientific Enquiry. In Year 3, students deepen their understanding through Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Biomechanics, and Applied Physiology and Scientific Enquiry, while optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Common Sports Injuries and Injury Prevention, Performance Nutrition, Outdoor Activities and Recreation, and Professional Work Experience. The final year focuses on advanced application and research through a Consultancy Project and a Double Research Project. Additional options such as Training Prescription for the Elite Athlete, Exercise Referral, Psychology of Diet and Exercise, and Professional Work Experience further prepare students for careers in sport science, coaching, rehabilitation, and fitness industries.
