COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design program is structured over four years to progressively develop creative, technical, and contextual design skills. In Year 1, students establish core foundations through Introduction to Visual Media Technologies, Typography Fundamentals, Drawing and Illustration, Aesthetics and Visual Composition, and Academic Writing, with optional modules such as English for Academic Purposes and Advertising and Marketing Communications supporting communication skills. Year 2 introduces specialist study through Introduction to Graphic Communication, Communication Craft Skills, Design Context 1, and Creative Thinking, encouraging experimentation and conceptual development. In Year 3, students expand their understanding of theory and practice with Design Context 2, Graphic Communication in Context, and Applied Graphic Design, while optional modules such as Professional Practice, Information Design, and Publishing and Advanced Editorial Design allow for focused exploration of industry-relevant areas. The final year consolidates professional readiness through Design Context 3, a Graphic Design Set Project, and a Graphic Design External Project, providing real-world experience and portfolio development. Optional modules including On-Screen Graphics and Typography and a Graphic Design Self-Initiated Project enable students to refine their personal design direction. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on creative problem-solving, technical proficiency, and critical awareness to prepare graduates for diverse careers within the graphic design industry.
