COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) English Language and Literature program at UCLan Cyprus is structured over four years to provide a balanced study of literary and linguistic disciplines. In Year 1, students develop essential academic skills through modules in academic writing, introduction to literature, the use of language in literature, and foundational studies in language and linguistics, with optional support in English for academic purposes. Year 2 expands critical and analytical knowledge with literary theory, Renaissance literature, language variation in society, meaning in interaction, and the sounds and structures of English, alongside optional language and cultural studies in Greek or Russian. In Year 3, students explore both practical and historical dimensions of English studies, including TESOL, nineteenth-century literary culture, the graphic novel, and English structure, with options such as literature in translation, fairy tales, child language acquisition, and word formation. The final year emphasizes advanced and specialized study through literature and film, contrastive linguistics, and the completion of either a literature or linguistics dissertation, with additional options in modern literature, Shakespeare, teaching young learners, and clinical linguistics. Overall, the program integrates theory, analysis, and practical application, preparing graduates for diverse professional pathways.
