COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and Sustainability Management (EIASM) is a three-semester postgraduate programme designed to provide advanced expertise in environmental assessment, sustainability management, and sustainable development practices. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation through core modules in environmental protection law and policy, theories and methods of environmental impact assessment, urban planning and sustainable development, and sustainability with strategic environmental assessment. These subjects develop an understanding of environmental legislation, planning processes, and the methodologies used to evaluate and manage environmental impacts. The second semester focuses on more specialised and practical areas, including sustainability science and management, economic analysis and environmental economics, geographic information systems (GIS) and environmental modelling, and the environmental impact assessment of projects. Through these modules, students gain technical and analytical skills necessary for assessing environmental risks, using advanced modelling technologies, understanding the economic dimensions of environmental decision-making, and managing sustainability challenges associated with development projects. The programme culminates in the third semester with a dissertation, where students undertake independent research on a relevant environmental or sustainability topic, applying theoretical knowledge and practical techniques to real-world issues. Overall, the programme combines environmental science, policy, economics, and technology to prepare graduates for professional roles in environmental consultancy, sustainability management, urban planning, environmental regulation, and project assessment. By integrating theoretical foundations with practical applications and research, the degree equips students with the leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills required to address complex environmental challenges and promote sustainable development in both public and private sector organisations at national and international levels.
