COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Counselling Psychology is a comprehensive six-semester postgraduate programme designed to develop advanced knowledge, practical counselling competencies, and professional research skills. In the first semester, students build a strong theoretical foundation through modules in ethics in counselling psychology, statistics and research methodology, multicultural counselling, and psychopathology, enabling them to understand ethical practice, cultural diversity, and psychological disorders. The second semester focuses on applied skills through psychometry, basic counselling skills, counselling in health-related settings, and counselling in educational environments, preparing students to work effectively with diverse populations and settings. During the third semester, students develop specialised expertise in career counselling, counselling with children and adolescents, and counselling with couples and families, while beginning the first stage of their thesis. The fourth semester expands professional competencies through advanced topics in counselling psychology, group counselling, and a pre-practicum module that prepares students for supervised professional practice, alongside continued thesis work. The fifth and sixth semesters emphasise experiential learning and professional development through two extensive practicum placements of 500 hours each, allowing students to apply counselling theories and intervention techniques in real-world settings under supervision. These semesters are complemented by research direction modules and the completion of the final stages of the thesis. Overall, the programme integrates theoretical knowledge, ethical practice, research skills, and extensive supervised training to prepare graduates for professional roles in counselling and psychological support services. It equips students with the ability to assess and address psychological difficulties, design appropriate interventions, work with individuals and groups across different age ranges and contexts, and conduct meaningful research, ensuring they are well-prepared for careers in counselling psychology and related mental health and support professions.
