COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science programme is a structured eight-semester degree designed to build strong foundations in mathematics, programming, and core computer science before advancing into specialised AI and applied technologies. In the first year, students focus on essential mathematical tools such as differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, logic, combinatorics, and probability, alongside introductory programming in Python and C, and basic computer science concepts. The second year develops core computational thinking through algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms, computer architecture, and an introduction to neural networks, machine learning, and probability theory. In the third year, the curriculum shifts toward applied AI and systems, covering pattern recognition, machine learning, algorithm engineering, theoretical computer science, optimisation techniques, human-computer interaction, databases, and big data, supported by project-based modelling and simulation work. The fourth year focuses on advanced and professional AI topics such as data mining, deep learning and reinforcement learning, natural language processing, robotics, computer vision, cybersecurity, and mobile application development using Kotlin, alongside research methods, a language module, and a thesis project split into two parts. Students also gain exposure to responsible AI, ethics, and legal considerations, ensuring awareness of real-world impacts. Throughout the programme, electives allow customisation into areas like cybersecurity, distributed ledger technologies, game development, IoT, operating systems, advanced programming, cryptography, psychology, and formal verification. The final year includes industrial placement experience to develop practical industry skills and employability. Overall, the degree is designed to progressively move from foundational mathematics and programming to advanced artificial intelligence systems, research, and industry-ready applications, ensuring graduates are equipped with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience across machine learning, software engineering, data science, and emerging AI technologies in a globally relevant computing environment.
